Box City at Old Shawnee Days

The museum stated Box City about 8 to 10 years ago by going out to schools and working with several classes for a day. We stopped going out to schools in 2006 as we did not have enough staff to be out for days at a time. In June 2006 or 2007 we started doing it as part of Old Shawnee Days. Box City at Shawnee Days was partially sponsored by Ellerbe-Becket, Scott Sayers, architect in charge.

We also offer it as a program offering for schools visiting Shawnee Town and scout groups as well. The Girl Scouts have shown the most interest, and we usually do 5 or 6 a year with them. One scout group matched junior girls with younger brownies and they worked in small groups. That was very effective. With groups we can do it inside or outside depending on the weather. With expansion under way, we have had to put off any summer week long programming. It is in our plans.
