Laurie Bottiger

Laurie Bottiger has been a CUBE team member for 10 years in the capacity of teacher, presenter, curriculum writer, board member and administrative responsibilities.

Laurie has served as CUBE's Local Program Director and National Education Coordinator. Since her move to Lawrence, Massachusetts as Founding Head of Esperanza Academy, she has been active in starting up development in the northeast. Previously she initiated, with The City Planning Office of Overland Park, a work/ school project, "Take Your Child to Work" utilizing Box City as the activity. With the Farnsley-Kauffman Property in Louisville, KY, Laurie developed a systematic approach to teaching about a historic site. Her curriculum work with the Watkins Mill site in Kansas City brought the public schools to the State Park site. Her workshop expertise includes Walk Around the Block, Community Connections and Box City. She is the co-author of Picture This!

Laurie's workshop outreach is unlimited. In her new position as Founding Head of Esperanza Academy in Lawrence, MA (about 30 miles north of Boston), she has the opportunity to incorporate community- based education into a tuition-free 5th-8th Grade school for young at-risk adolescent girls. Lawrence, itself, provides a living laboratory with a has a rich history for many immigrants transitioning into American life. individual needs and allows the learners to operate at personal best.
