Greg Larsen is instructor in Music and Humanities at Graland Country Day School, an independent K-9 school located in Denver, CO. In addition, he teaches an elective course in residential architecture (grades 7-9) at Graland. Greg enlists the expertise of parents and students in enriching the course; parents include practicing architects, a housing development executive, and a realtor team of parents who spoke to the students on marketing their work.

One parent is organizing an architectural review committee to examine student portfolios and offer suggestions for improvement if solicited. One aspiring student-architect is assisting Greg in teaching the course during this current term. About 60% of class time is devoted to the interactive Building Homes of our Own [NAHB] program which is available in one of the computer labs. A couple of class sessions are devoted to Walk Around the Block activities and field trips to local architectural practices are also arranged. He previously served both independent and public schools in the
Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area. In each school community he has established
a music curriculum for grades 6-9 that include both choral ensembles and
classroom music courses. It is for the classroom courses that he has made
extensive use of the visual arts in relating elements, form (design) and
style to concepts in music.
He participated on the Teacher Advisory Panel for the Minneapolis Institutes
of Arts and team-taught a course training docents of the Institute to
utilize music to components of student tours. He served in a similar
capacity for the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, in preparing a concert
coordinated with the Centeršs major Picasso Exhibition.
Greg also taught an extensive summer course at Hamline University, St. Paul.
This course, Comparative Arts for Middle School, interconnected styles of
music, visual arts, literature and especially architecture using artifacts
available in the Twin Cities area.
